After 7 years of being a parent, I've gotten pretty good at recognizing my need for quiet, alone time. At first, I had difficulty accepting that it was okay for me to ask this of myself (and my family), but after all these years, I'm a master at it. Because everyone needs time to rejuvenate, and no matter how fantastic our time may be spent with our children, the time for ourselves is crucial in our happiness.
Everyone seeks out this time in different ways. For me, my favourite alone moments are when I can take a hot bubble bath (without wee hands running in and trying to swipe bubbles), reading my favourite book (without being asked for a snack every page or so) and wandering around a book store.
This Mother's Day, let's tell mom to take some time for herself. My request each year is to sleep in. And maybe eat some baked goods. It's pretty simple, but these gestures are important. I definitely want a hot bubble bath at the end of the night too.
Fellow moms, how do you take time for yourself? When was the last time you did?
