Cottage Beauty

Heading to a cottage this summer? My family and I go each year and it's become a tradition that we can't shake because we have too much fun.

As time has gone on, I've gotten much better at packing for our cottage trip.  We have laundry facilities (this suddenly doesn't sound very vintage cottage-y does it?) so I don't have to bring a lot of clothes.  We spend more of our time in bathing suits and cover ups anyway, then we need a few things for travelling into towns or restaurants.

I've also gotten very good at not bringing along too many beauty products.  My hair ends up as a tangled mess after days at the beach and my skin takes a few days to adjust to the salt water but I've discovered that I need the bare minimum to get through the weeks we are at the cottage.

Here are my tips for simple cottage beauty:

Hair: Bring a leave in conditioner and your favourite shampoo to get a really great wash after the sand and salt from the water takes it's toll.  For days when you just have an air dried look, try a dry shampoo or spray.

Face: Consider SPF/sunscreen your top priority.  My face is free from make up when we are away, but always has a moisturizer with SPF.  I also can't travel anywhere without lip gloss or balm.  Nothing is worse than dry, chapped lips in the sun!

Skin: The name of the game for your skin is hydration.  When you are in and out of the water, it tends to dry out quickly.  Our cottage is by the ocean which means my skin isn't use to all the dry salt water.  The funny thing is though, after a few days, I actually find my skin loves the saltiness.  But all along, moisturizer is the key!
